Mario Kart DS is a racing game where the player races at a kart against other racers as one of eight characters, each with three karts to choose from. While fighting or racing, the Nintendo DS’s top screen supplies a neater view of the participant’s kart, while the bottom touchscreen shows the race’s current standings, things carried by each racer, and a map of the course. The bottom display can be toggled to show either an overview of the entire class, or even a bird’s-eye perspective of the participant’s kart and also the immediate vicinity, such as neighboring racers, class risks, object boxes, along with incoming strikes. Each course features thing boxes the participant can drive through to receive a randomly chosen item, which the participant can use to gain an edge over other racers. Some items permit the player to strike other racers to slow them down, although other objects may be employed to speed up the player’s personal kart to pass other racers more readily.
Game modes
The Grand Prix and also Vs modes require the player choose an engine class from one of 50 cc, 100 cc, and 150 cc. The courses serve as difficulty levels–the greater the motor class, the quicker each of karts go. Moreover, a Mirror mode may be unlocked, where karts use 150 cc motors and monitors are horizontally reversed (including hints and lettering present in the first orientation).
In Grand Prix mode, the player competes against seven computer-controlled racers in a collection of courses that are predetermined. Unlike previous Mario Kart games, which comprised four cups, Mario Kart DS features eight cups: Mushroom, Flower, Star, Particular, Shell, Banana, Leaf and Lightning, using the latter 4 cups comprising entirely of tracks drawn from previous entries in the Mario Kart series. Each cup includes four tracks, for a total of 32. When a cup is finished, a rating will be awarded depending on the times and places, which range from E to A, then to 1, 2 or 3 stars. Much like in Double Dash, players get points for each finishing position.
In Time Trial mode, the player needs to finish a class as quickly as possible by utilizing 1, two or three mushrooms (based on which kart can be utilized ). The fastest time is then saved as a ghost, even a duplicate of the player’s performance, which the participant can race later.
In V.S. mode, the player races on a course of the choosing against computer-controlled competitions or in multiplayer. The style can be performed individually or in teams, which divides racers to a blue group and a red staff; at multiplayer, players can command which team they’re put on. In addition, the amount of races played and scoring system may likewise be altered.
Fight mode features two game modes, including Balloon Battle and Shine Runners, both which also enable the player to perform either independently or in groups.
In Balloon Battle, the player has to pop the ring of the opposing players by attacking them, or else they can steal balloons by boosting into other karts. Each player starts the battle using 1 balloon. These can be re-inflated up to 4 times. In multiplayer, even if a person player loses all his/her balloons, he’s from the game and becomes a ghost. As a ghost, a participant can only place product boxes. If the battle is played in single playerthen the match ends and the results are announced when all of the human player’s balloons are popped.
